Understanding Elevated FSH Levels in Women and Its Impact on Fertility

Fertility is influenced by various factors, including follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels. Elevated FSH can indicate reproductive challenges.

What is FSH?

FSH, produced by the pituitary gland, is crucial for ovarian follicle development and ovulation.

Normal FSH Levels:

FSH levels peak before ovulation. Elevated levels early in the cycle may signal fertility issues.

Causes of Elevated FSH Levels:

Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR): Associated with aging, DOR leads to reduced egg quality and quantity.

Premature Ovarian Failure (POF): Ovaries stop functioning before age 40, causing infertility and hormonal imbalances.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): While characterized by other hormonal imbalances, some women with PCOS have elevated FSH.

Functional Causes: Stress, excessive exercise, and extreme weight loss can temporarily elevate FSH levels, reversible with lifestyle changes.

Implications for Fertility:

Elevated FSH indicates reduced ovarian reserve or dysfunction, complicating conception and increasing miscarriage risk.

Acupuncture can help, if FSH is elevated.

Acupuncture, a traditional Chinese medicine, can improve ovarian blood supply, function, and egg quality, potentially lowering FSH levels and enhancing fertility.

Studies show acupuncture significantly reduces FSH levels and improves ovarian function, egg quality, and IVF success rates.
